What Will You Learn?

  • 1. Role of Trauma Recovery Supports (TRS): TRS individuals provide support to those affected by addiction. They act as role models, advocates, and motivators - fostering safety and connection while sharing coping skills and resources.
  • 2. Key Principles of TRS: Confidentiality, responsibility, self-regulation, non-judgment, empowerment and respect for others' journeys are key principles of TRS. It is important to meet clients where they are, and not exert more effort than the individual in recovery.
  • 3. Coaching Practices of TRS: Coaching skills can be an important element in removing barriers to recovery. This includes meeting individuals where they are, and using lived experience to build rapport and support.
  • 4. What TRS is NOT: We are not counsellors, therapists, sponsors, friends, doctors, lawyers, or religious mentors.
  • 5. Resource Mapping Activity: Creating resource maps to identify available supports and gaps in community resources helps foster collaboration and enhance outreach efforts.
  • 6. Hope, Connection, and Possibility: We offer hope through our own lived experiences, connecting individuals with communities, and inspiring others with the possibility of recovery.
